Advising

Spring 2025

Welcome back for Spring 2025! Thursday, January 16 (the 4th class day) was the last day for students to add themselves to courses. Starting January 17, you will need advisor permission to add courses and adding courses will become significantly challenging or impossible, especially as we approach the 12th class day, January 29. Waitlists typically only run through the 4th class day and then turn off. RESOLVE YOUR SCHEDULE ASAP! Check your Registration Information Sheet for full details.

From January 17 through January 29, we focus on late adds to history courses and assist many non-history majors. We will NOT be accepting appointments January 17-29. History majors are welcome to walk in those days for assistance with timely matters such as adjusting their schedule, seniors wanting to check their schedule for Spring 2025 graduation, make sure their schedule keeps them on track for Summer or Fall 2025 graduation, or any history major having trouble resolving their schedule. Examples of non-urgent issues that can wait would be discussions like grad school applications or applying to history honors in Fall 2025. Appointments for non-timely matters will resume January 30 and can be scheduled at the link below.

If you are not a current History major, and want to add a class, do not email us. Come to drop-ins.

If you are not a current History major and your question does not relate to adding a class, try emailing us.

GRADUATING IN SPRING 2025? Please run a degree audit. Your audit should be running 100% clear with your current classes. There may be exceptions, like you are taking a course through community college this semester. If there are exceptions you don't understand, seek advising immediately! If you think the audit is in error... it's probably not. Seek advising! The Graduation Application opens up on January 30.

Our office in Garrison Hall (GAR 1.140) is genereally open from 9am-noon and 1-4pm, Monday through Friday. Please note that we do welcome walk-ins, but work primarily via appointment. If you walk in during a busy time, or when the advisors have appointments, we may triage your question quickly and direct you to schedule an appointment.

Want to declare a history major?

All students declaring a history major must meet with an advisor for a "Declare the History Major" appointment. If you are currently in COLA, this is the only step you need to take to declare History.

Not currently in COLA and declaring history?

If you are a UT student not currently enrolled in Liberal Arts, you should submit the UT Austin internal transfer application. Once you have submitted the application, you will be required to meet with an advisor before you can declare.
